The Eastern Mediterranean Security & Energy Partnership Act of 2019 has been tabled to the US Congress by Democratic Senators Marco Rubio and Mr Robert Menendez provides for the lifting of the weapons and arms embargo, to allow for the creation of a US Eastern Mediterranean Energy Centre to facilitate energy cooperation between the US, Israel, Greece, and Cyprus.

Disy party with the majority of seats and rival party Akel exchanged opposing views for a second day on Wednesday last week regarding the proposed bill to lift the ancient US sale of weapons restriction on Cyprus, with Akel suggesting it was a mere smokescreen to target Russian influences on the islands economy.
