Cyprus has been declared one of the safest countries in the world following Switzerland, Singapore, Spain and Japan. Another outstanding statistic is Cyprus has been ranked as being the number one safest places to live and visit among the countries with a population of under 5 million.
The ranking was based on an average safety score that came after the collection of data for 7 different categories. Some of these categories are based on CO2 emissions, the life expectancy, national police personnel, traffic deaths and the thefts and assaults that take place in each country annually.
In the national police personnel category, Cyprus ranked 21st for having a ratio of 466 policemen are hired per 100,000 citizens. While the number of police in a country isn’t necessarily linked to safety, however, having fewer thefts is a good sign regardless.
Cyprus is the third island that entered the top five list as being one of the safest countries in the world.
