Some might consider that Cyprus drivers are reckless on the roads. This is about to change with the Cyprus Parliament has passed the Bill to make the Cyprus drivers abide the traffic regulation by imposing higher penalties and fines.
The higher penalties and fines are introduced for talking on a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seat belt, speeding, illegal parking, and fleeing the accident scene which will lead to the criminal offence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the road police have become more visible to enforce the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the Cyprus government. The new files and penalties were nearly doubled comparing to the current level and, as the Cyprus government expects, will serve to improve the situation on the Cyprus roads.
