Chinese Alibaba Forced to Adhere to EU Directives for European Online Shoppers

Last week, consumer bodies from various EU members including France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands urged their national consumer protection agencies to take action against Chinese online giant Alibaba; more specifically its online portal for e-commerce and shopping.

The company’s terms and conditions allegedly set terms that breach EU Directives. The complaints against AliExpress, a subsidiary, resonated a comparable criticism by Luxembourg consumer body earlier this year who requested that the issues were to be resolved in EU Courts that would fight for consumer rights.
