China Has Removed the Term Limits for its Presidential Office

By in

Within a month from its announcement, on 11.03.2018, the Chinese Parliament has up-voted the amendment of its constitution to remove the 10-year presidency term limit. This amendment was the first one in 14 years and it effectively enables the current president, Xi Jinping, to remain in office indefinitely.

Chinese media, in their response to the criticism received, praised the decision of the Chinese Parliament criticizing, in turn, the Western political system. The Human Rights for China group, based in US, recognizes the risk of such concentration of power.

With that in mind, we could be witnessing a new era of monarchy for China.
