Cayman Islands & UK go Head-to-Head in London to Discuss Disagreements

Later this week, (December the 7th), a delegation team from the Cayman Islands government will arrive in the UK. The UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office will discuss their constitutional relationship with the overseas territory, following the UK government’s decision to mandate the adoption of public registers for all company Beneficial Owners housed there.

Mr Aldon McLaughlin, the Cayman Islands Premier publicly contests the UK’s position of control in order to lawfully legislate for the Cayman Islands regarding secondary domestic matters. From the talks, the Cayman Islands hope for the 2009 Cayman Constitution to restrict the UK’s authority to international responsibilities only.
