Caribbean Nations Hit Back at EU on Grounds of ‘Infringement of Sovereign Rights’

The Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has said publicly that EU’s constantly varying tax-compliance requirements are invading the rights of Caribbean countries. His comments were made in a speech to CARICOM heads of government last week.

Irwin LaRocque stressed the attitudes of all the British Crown Dependencies, reiterating that the principle of non-interference could be found applicable to some of the actions taken by the EU towards some of the 15 CARICOM nations, and publicly labelling some of their members as “non-cooperative tax jurisdictions”.
