BREXIT: Analysis of EU Nationals’ Rights in the UK

By in

A detailed analysis has now been released about the rights of EU nationals living in the UK after the introduction of Brexit in March 2019. Essentially, the UK intends for all current EU freedom of movement rights to be terminated.

This, therefore, means that all existing registration certificates, EU permanent residence cards and other residence cards will then become invalid.

The British Government are proposing that it will ask all EU citizens who current live in Britain to “register their interest” officially in regards to obtaining the necessary documentation. The respective documents would then allow the EU citizens to live and work in the UK after introduction of Brexit at the end of March 2019.

Following this, on the date of withdrawal from the EU, EU nationals who are already in the UK will be required to apply for new residency documentation before the end of a two-year leniency period.
